The Vilnius International Rotary Club (VIRC) was chartered in 2003. Its well over 40 male and female Club members from about 10 countries represent the international community of Lithuania as well as internationally active and oriented Lithuanians. The Club attempts to keep a balance in its local Lithuanian and its foreign membership. The rotating presidency is alternating between a Lithuanian and a foreign Club member.
The official Club language is English. The meetings of VIRC are held in English. Information on the weekly luncheons see below and in under „Events“ on this webpage. The Radission Blu Astorija Hotel is located in the very center of the old town of Vilnius. As the only English speaking Club in Lithuania we have the pleasure to often welcome guest from abroad at our luncheons.
The mix of membership of VIRC provides a unique combination of international Rotarians who are well connected with local Rotarian with well established roots in the Lithuanian society. Many of the Clubs international members are only temporarily in Lithuania. Maintaining the right mix of members is therefore a continous challenge.
The Club has been and continues to be the local partner Club in many cross country and in some cases cross continent projects for Lithuania, including projects receiving funds from the Matching Grant program of the Rotary Foundation and support from District Designated Funds. In addition the main focus of the VIRC’s own projects is with the handicapped and socially disadvantaged youth in Lithuania. For more information see the „Projects“ section of this webpage.
VIRC is part of District 1410, which covers all of Lithuania and southern Denmark.
