Rotary Summer Camp

1. Goal of the Project

 

1.1. Short term

The main goal of the camp is to give the orphan children an opportunity to spend a week of summer holidays not in the city streets, but in a calm place outside the city, where they can perform various activities, express ideas, learn some new skills, meet different type of people and act in the environment of proper behavior and good values. Short term goal of the project - to arrange a camp which will take place on 19th - 24th of July 2010.

 

1.2. Long term

The long-term goal of the project is to continue the project arranging summer camps for children. The idea is that this project would grow into a beautiful tradition that orphans and children from poor families who have heard about this project, plan their summers and wait for this event.

 

2. Detailed description of the project

Having the experience of successful implementation in 2009, the initiative is continued in 2010. There will be 60 children from poor families and institutions/orphan homes invited to join the Rotary Summer Camp. They will spend the week 19-24 of July in a camp rented from the Jesuit College in Vilnius. The camp is located on a small lake 25 km outside Vilnius. The children will be treated with an extensive program of playful games and learning activities, such as painting, crafts, producing a play, musical performance by young students, etc.

Rotaractors and Interactors will voluntarily join the camp as team-leaders, live in the camp and provide assistance to manage all the children.

Rotarians will interact with children in certain events in the camp. They will also perform an opening and closing ceremonies, giving out prizes and diplomas to the participating children for various accomplishments and contributions.

 

3. Benefit of the project

It is expected that children will broaden their minds, spend some meaningful time, and learn new skills, which might help them to get a job, build a career and create better lives for themselves.

 

4. Project beneficiaries

Children living in orphans' homes and poor families.
